Alpha Insulation & Waterproofing Inc. Success Story

Greg Wiatrek, Alpha Insulation & Waterproofing Inc.’s director of operations in San Antonio, Texas, said his company’s focus is providing customers with quality construction. For more than 28 years, Alpha has delivered projects with integrity and professionalism, covering most scopes of work in thermal and moisture protection (Division 7) while serving hundreds of nationally prominent clients in its market.  Not once in Wiatrek’s tenure has his workforce left a project unfinished.

In 2008, Alpha’s president implemented The ExakTime System in the company’s Austin, Texas branch because he felt his current method of processing payroll was inefficient. Alpha, which has seven regional offices serving the entire Southeast and South Central U.S. markets, had relied on superintendents to remember workers’ time records and jobsites and then manually enter that information into an Excel spreadsheet, a process that took multiple hours every weekly payroll.

When the test in Austin turned out to save the company time processing payroll in the office, Alpha decided to implement The ExakTime System into Wiatrek’s workforce in San Antonio. Wiatrek said he couldn’t have been happier about the change, and it only took his workers about one week to get used to the system because it is so easy to use.

"The system is completely accurate," the director of operations said. "We basically get an employee-entered timesheet instead of a superintendent or myself entering time for them. Now, we have an exactly accurate record, and that’s what we needed."

By using ExakTime’s portable time clock, the JobClock, Alpha can easily track employees, their jobsites and their cost codes all in one time tracking software, TimeSummit. Wiatrek said it now takes his superintendents only 15 minutes - instead of hours - each week to review their workers’ time and attendance records, because they no longer have to manually enter the records into Excel. TimeSummit does it all for them.

Alpha has found The ExakTime System so helpful that the company now uses more than 400 JobClocks nationally at nearly 100 different locations every week.

"We use JobClocks at about 95 percent of our sites," Wiatrek said. "It fits our needs, and it’s the best solution for our situation."

Wiatrek said that tracking cost codes has helped him review how effective Alpha has been at bidding and how ineffective his workers have been in some areas. He reviews all of this information in TimeSummit and then organizes the records into customized reports in the software.

Wiatrek also uses these reports as selling points for customers, showing prospects how Alpha efficiently keeps track of its time and attendance. He said his customers love seeing the information.

Alpha also plans on implementing ExakTime’s integration software, AccountLinx, which will export all of Alpha’s time and attendance records from TimeSummit into Alpha’s own payroll package, saving Alpha more time in the office and eliminating all manual data entry.

Through it all, Wiatrek said that ExakTime’s team has been helpful from the start, and he has never had a problem getting to the bottom of the few issues he has run into.

"I’ve had a very favorable experience," he said. "The service team is pretty prompt. I’ve never had an issue that didn’t get resolved when I needed it to get resolved."
