Dons Custom Landscaping Success Story Don Dvornik’s company, Dons Custom Landscaping in Evergreen Park, Illinois, has worked on municipal projects since 1983. A veteran in his field, Dvornik has built his company on integrity and hard work. His growing company now has 12 full-time and six part-time employees, all of whom specialize in high-end maintenance.
But as Dvornik’s business grew in the early 2000’s, he found himself in search of an easier payroll system to track his employees. He had tried using the honor system and a time punch clock, but neither method provided the right solution for his company, and both processes were time-consuming and inaccurate. After seeing an advertisement in a landscaping magazine for the JobClock in August 2006, Dvornik decided to call Exaktime to find out more about its portable timekeeping products. Less than one month later, he purchased his first JobClock, Keytabs for his workers and TimeSummit software. Almost immediately, Dvornik knew he made the right decision. “We not only saw the convenience of having the information put together, but the savings were great,” the business owner said. “It was reality. We noticed, because you’re structuring workers’ lunch being taken out for an eight-hour shift, you’re actually seeing the time curtailed because it’s exact. The convenience of being able to download these sheets with TimeSummit has been amazing.”
Dvornik never had concern implementing the system with his workers, but initially he was scared for his own personal reasons. A self-claimed non-tech guy, Dvornik wanted to make sure he could operate the system on a computer – a device he had never worked with before. But, he said, with the help of Exaktime’s team, the transition was simple.
“The tech support department walked me through everything,” he said. “In under an hour, I was able to get everything up and running. We used it that first week… If I can do this, anyone can figure it out.” After implementing the system into his business, Dvornik said he saw a drastic increase in his profit margin, as workers finally worked full 40-hour weeks, which allowed them to complete more jobs each day.
Dvornik’s wife, his company’s bookkeeper, has found her own benefits in the back office as well. She saves several hours each week on payroll and saves even more time quarterly when she has to gather information for tax payments and deposits. The organization for her is key. “I’m glad I nipped this problem in the bud years ago,” Dvornik said.
Thus far, Dvornik has had nothing but great experiences with the Exaktime staff and The JobClock System. He couldn’t be happier that he purchased his solution at the right time, and he’s even more thankful now for the system’s efficiency during the current economic downturn.
“Everything we received…put us in the right direction without any problems,” Dvornik said. “Exaktime’s service has been perfect, unbelievable since the beginning. In today’s economy, we’ve had to cut corners. But our payroll is what it is. We have it secure.”
